Garry Marshall loved the idea of camp, the spirit of camp, and the fun of camp. He also loved sports. A team working together with practice and precision. Young artists from ages 8-11 and ages 12-17 are invited to be bold, brave, and creative as we adventure through the world of the performing arts in the YOUTH ARTS SUMMER CAMP and MUSICAL THEATRE SUMMER CAMP.
We start with fun and we end with fun, and everything in between will be both kinetic and immersed in the exciting world of professional live performance. Discovery, exploration, and learning is a constant in the vibrant art of live performance and theatre. Campers separated by age group will meet as a company at various times throughout the camp day, but will be working with separate teaching staff and counselors based on their age.
We will learn, practice, and refine skills that are at the core of being a well rounded performing artist, such as range of voice, command of body language and physicality, stage presence, and the power of communicating with confidence.
Each Session is a free standing arts exploration, but for the fullest experience, campers who attend the 4-week camp will practice and explore the full arc of live performance and musical theatre. GMT’s camp curriculum is based on exploration and the freedom to be messy and to try. Collaboration essentials within an ensemble, practicing nuance in performance and making clear, bold choices will be highly focused.
Session 3 - MUSICAL THEATRE SUMMER CAMP - will consist of shaping a musical theatre piece with diversity in song selection for a full exploration of the American artform of Musical Theatre. Camp days will be concentrated on scene work, vocalization, choreography and on-stage performance for a culmination presentation with live musicians, and elements of costume, props and scenic developed by participants in the TEEN TECH Summer Camp.
