Find your light! Stage lighting and effects add a pivotal layer to stage scenic designs. These specialty designs enhance the mood of live performances in theatrical productions, concerts, and events. This April 2025, our Teen Tech program explores the essential role that lighting and special effects play in storytelling from technical, design, and logistical perspectives.
Teen Tech: Stage Lighting & Effects covers the foundational skills of stage lighting, including understanding lighting instruments, hanging lights, programming, and creating lighting cues. Sessions will mirror professional design practices in a live theatre space. Participants will be immersed in technical stage lighting and stage effects through interactive workshops involving color theory, gobo projection, operating a spot light, and effects like fog and haze. Sessions will include practical experience in the Garry Marshall Theatre with our newly acquired industry-standard lighting equipment, including LED fixtures, moving lights and control boards. The participants will work together on collaborative projects and explore their own individual creativity with mentorship and guidance from industry professionals. Although much of the work will involve theatre lighting instruments, participants will receive a personal lighting and safety tool kit and take home practice projects and design paperwork exploring lighting and stage effects.
Limited Spaces Available. Tuition Assistance Available.
