BROADWAY BOUND

Musical Theatre Exploration for Youth

ENROLLMENT IS CLOSED

Ages 8-9 - Theme: Stage Musicals inspired by Literature

Ages 10-12 - Theme: Movie Musicals inspired by Stage Musicals

Ages 13-17 - Theme: Modern & Iconic Tony-winning Musicals

The goal of this series is for young people to be immersed in the world of creating live performance and musical theatre, and to have fun during the process. Students will learn from working industry professionals in a supportive and healthy environment - all in the venue built by the legendary Garry Marshall, who believed that there is great value in young people collaborating together through theatre.

Throughout their time with our instructors, participants will learn the valuable and foundational skills of performance in American Musical Theatre. We will explore the full range using one’s speaking voice, gaining a better command of body language and stage presence, being comfortable with in-person communication, and learning confidence-building tools used on stage and in life. The program involves:

  • Making choices as a performer in a song

  • Singing in a group and harmonizing

  • Acting styles in musical theatre

  • Being a supportive cast member

The age 13-17 cohort will practice additional techniques such as performing in a leading role, making individualized character choices, and developing a character arc through performance.

This program culminates with a special presentation on the GMT stage showcasing the BROADWAY BOUND participants sharing what they learned and created during their 6 weeks together.
