LISTEN MORE. DO MORE. LOVE MORE. BLACK LIVES MATTER

BLACK LIVES MATTER

This building was built for everyone to laugh and cry and learn. And the learning is possibly the most important. What we are learning is that our duty is greater than we realize. We acknowledge that we can and should and will do more. We are a small theatre community that is part of a bigger arts community, that is part of a greater global community. A community that must not allow the repercussions of racism to be anyone's experience. It’s simply not okay. And we simply must do better. Because our hurting nation needs relief and we are all part of that healing.

Who we are and who we want our children to be, are often seen in the movies and television and plays we watch. Especially the plays. And we are impacted. Affected. Moved to tears perhaps. And then what? We go home and think about that poignant play, that inspiring play, that powerful play. Because it's on a stage, the story might seem "over there" and not real. But it is real or it represents real. And what we love about art helps us move forward in life to be better and to do better. To be more compassionate and more empowered to be an active part of change.

The Garry Marshall Theatre pledges to do more, to listen more, to say more, to love more.

Because this physical structure stands for togetherness and community.
A community to support each other and to stand up for each other.
A community to spread love to all our neighbors.
A community that does not tolerate any act of hate.

Black lives matter.

And it takes determination from all to learn that lesson and to do better.
